Moby is the stage name of Richard Melville Hall (born September 11, 1965), an American songwriter, musician and singer. Moby also serves as the name of his live band.
He plays keyboard, guitar, bass guitar and drums. He took his nickname from the novel "Moby-Dick", which was written by Herman Melville, his great-great grand uncle.
