The Meaning of Life

At least one of the given answers to this age-old question will be true.
The more people share their wisdom and thoughts on this subject, the harder it will be to choose the ultimate answer. When there are enough answers, then the voting will commence.

Share your wisdom... and let's see what happens!

PS: You can use someone else's quote (in that case please name the original author), or you can write your opinion on what the meaning of life is.

The meaning of live is to live it...
Not to go day by day making sure this is done, and you have that done, and all is taken care of if this or that happen... Unfortunately, we as a society have made sure we trapped ourselves into such a way of living that we as people or individuals no longer understand the meaning of life, nor do we see how it is even possible.

I think that the meaning of life is different for each individual.
Ultimately though, I believe that the meaning of life is love (not necessarily sexual) whether it be for another person, music, a pet, art, nature, etc. It can be anything but as long as you have love, your life has meaning.

Of course that the ultimate purpose is to live it. But, I can imagine that the question was how to do it in order to know that we are in harmony with our higher self.
When I act out of love, joy and happiness, creating the moment, then I am balanced and feeling great. Actually we should do those things that make us feeling like that. Then the best of us comes out, which is not only for our best but for the best of those around us. Unfortunately people are too conditioned, limited with fears and therefore put in the context of the lives of others more than in the own life.

The meaning and purpose of life is to do everything you can to leave this place at least a little better off than it was before you arrived. To spread beauty, in your particular way, and through doing that, leave a mark in history.
Cherokee Expression wrote:

"When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice."
Basically, it is again about leaving a mark..

I am not really sure, what the meaning of life is, but it could be to just enjoy it and live every day like it would be your last one. I imagine it then, that then when we are really old that we than look back and see what a great and fullfilled life we had and laugh about how beautiful it was.

the meaning of life is not a qustion but an experience.
What is the purpose of life is another question entirely.........
Andreas Rudolph, Denmark wrote:

The reason that nobody can answer the question is because the question itself is flawed. There is no meaning or purpose with our lives and we are just a courious product of chance in the universe. This doesn't mean that there isn't hope for happines though, because a life without meaning means that nobody can tell you how to live it. (Read that part again). That again means that you shouldn't be afraid of not living to the fullest because something without meaning or purpose doesn't need a direction or higher guidence it just exists. As soon as one realises this (don't worry i haven't totally either) one becomes free from pressure and free of thought and stop feeling guilty because one spends an entire day in front of the tv or chooses to pass down a party at friday or saturday night. Nobody or nothing should dictate how you life should be spent and everything is voulentary. Be free, be happy and just... exist, in all it's beauty, chaos and complexity.

Life is meaningless, a random occurrence in the universe. It is pointless to assign a "meaning" to it.

The beauty and divesity of the Earth and all the living things thereon is, to ME, absolute proof of a supreme being. I call this being Devine Providence. (Excuse the use of the male gender please) To be created in His image and be master of all tings on Earth and then ALSO allowed to roam the heavens, is the ultimate compliment to mankind. You have missed it, UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND, that we, are here, for HIS pleasure and amusement. When we cease to amuse HIM, we will be gone soon enough.

I don't beleive you can understand the meaning of life until you have given birth .Once you have a child, it changes your whole outlook on life because you can no longer be selfish as this little person will be reliant on you for happiness, health and emotional well being until the day you or they die.

Yes life has meaning and it is up to all to find all of their meaning, which of course takes a life time or perhaps many and it's all for the joy and love and the meaning for your soul, your heart your love, love, love

Life is a joke, one massive cosmic joke. We go through life, an ultimately it is meaningless. therefore the meaning must be in living. live each day as if it is your last, have no regrets, act on your emotions. Get out and meet people, don't make the mistake I did, don't lock yourself up inside. Tell people if you have feelings for them, you never know, they might have feelings for you. Never leave it until it is too late.

A theme seems to emerge here that relates to nothingness:

Others relate life to the experience itself:

The idea that life is simply the experience of living is a tautology that evades an answer to the question. And life presented as nothingness, or a joke, is a personal judgment about it that does not answer the question any more than the tautology.

I confess that I don't know what is the ultimate meaning of life. But everything that emerges in the realm of nature on earth and in the realm of the universe does not do so accidentally. This means there is a "whole" or a "one" that integrates our universe and all the particles in it...

Ultimately I agree with what glenngi wrote: "Yes life has meaning and it is up to all of us to find that meaning..."

My own quote:
"The meaning of life is to be found in thinking about what is reality and the beauty of it is to be found in our DNA's memorization of all forms that have been successfully retained along the four billion years of evolution of the principle of life on Gaia our earth".

The meaning of life is derived from serving the one who gave life - that is God.

Well, Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs seems like a good place to start.
First, take care of the body internally...eating, sleeping, staying warm, etc.
Then, you can take care of the body, externally...physical security, obtaining resources from outside.
Then, you can connect with others...enjoy friendships, camaraderie and love.
Then, when you are in the safe circle of security you have built, you can begin introspection and try to improve yourself and the world around you.
Finally, you can take this introspection of yourself and the world around you and come to peace with the world you have made for yourself and your place in it.

Some usfull book I rad says:
"Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher. "Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless."

What does man gain from all his labor at which he toils under the sun?

Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever.
.....
Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.

The gift of life will be fully understood as soon as I know who I am. Who Am I? Everything That I Believe I AM. With free will, we can choose to make life what we desire. We create our reality based on what we believe to be Truth. I am learning that I create my reality..so then, the question comes, what do I choose to create? I choose to create a new world where LOVE is the guiding Light and universal LAW and Expression. So, then HOW do I do this? By a simple change in my BELIEFS. As I change, the exterior, (or what I expereince, or what I call into my world)...changes. The exterior changes as my views change. I don't need to try to save the whales, or eat organic, or even recycle. All that is needed is to focus on my inner workings..learn how to create by studying my mind...and looking at what is happening in my exterior. As I change - My World Changes. Which comes back to wise words: "Be the Change that you would like to see in the world."

Life the Universe and Everything.
If our sun was the nucleus of an atom and the planets in our solar system were the electrons of the same atom then our galaxy could be a collection of atoms forming a living cell. If all the galaxies were living cells that make up a living being standing on his/her planet then you have infinity. If you think further on this you realize all living beings are born and die. But time is (I believe) relative to size. A second to our universe may be billions of years to us.
